Based on threads over in [livejournal.com profile] tithenai and [livejournal.com profile] cucumberseed's LJs (from before the Second Great LJ Kablooey of '11), I started the Hundred Push-Ups program this week. I've finished the first week, and am enjoying it.

After finishing day one, I realized a major flaw with the program, and in fact the very idea of push-ups: they're not cat-proof.

See, the very first day I started the program, Max saw me lie down, and immediate assumed that my hands splayed out on the floor were an invitation to play. So he came over and licked a finger, then playfully nipped one. When I scooted away and pushed myself up, he naturally came over and nuzzled my face. Explaining to him (gently but firmly) that I was trying to do a set of exercises and playtime could happen later did nothing. Nor did flinging him onto the couch.

The next phase involved Max waiting until I'd pushed-up, and then walking under my chest and just standing there.

Sigh.

The solution, of course, was to take the cat into the kitchen and give him a bunch of treats.

And yes, I had a similar experience with Victoria today.

The lesson here, of course, is to make sure the cats are in another castle room before starting exercising.

Hee!

Our Chester prefers to just climb on one's back and settle in -- which is actually easier than Max's desire to hang out under you!

I had that problem a lot when I used to do yoga. He wouldn't interfere, exactly, but he found the "lie still and relax" poses very upsetting (or possibly exciting) and kept trying to check on me/eat my face while I did them. Not so relaxing, really.

Yeah, this is what makes me do push-ups in the cube.

HAH! I have had this problem, except that it came in the form of Fara wanting to play with the drawstring of my sweatpants as I pushed up and lowered down. "Catch the string" morphed into "escape the smoosh." It was very silly.

Of course, now you've trained the cats to know that when you exercise, they get treats.

My cat sits on my back during pushup's, too. I think of it as extra weight. :)

You should send that story into Simon's Cat. I bet he's make that into a video.

Yeah, yoga was always a "blast" with the kitties. They always want to help....or something.

My cat also likes to interfere with my situps. I think because he's fat that he wants everyone else to be fat.
