Stasi secret agents apparently followed the same secret disguise protocols as Laverne and Shirley.

(I can't actually remember if there was an episode in which L&S went undercover, but this totally seems like the way they'd go about it.)

The Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations show had an episode on Berlin where he talked to an ex spy. Back then no one in East germany could afford blue jeans... but the Stasi. This ex British spy said you could spot them by the Stasi's jean, black leather jackets and sunglasses. The brit said with a wry grin, "They might have just worn neon yellow capes and a shirt proclaiming them as secret agents."

I learned about these disguise protocols in a documentary entitled Spies Like Us, though I must confess that I do not think I have ever seen any of these people before, so the disguises may work.
