New DCU: Extra bits
Sep. 8th, 2011 04:48 pm1. Okay, finally read Green Arrow, and it's pretty, but meh as a story. Mind you, Jurgens and Perez art is enough to make it popular by itself, but there's not much there. Also, GA can now backflip off a building, drop three or four stories through the air (while going about ninety feet forward) and crash through a skylight on a moving target with ease. Granted, I can do that, too, but I do consider it an unusual trait.
Also, I hate the unbearded Green Arrow look, although that's just a personal thing. Oliver Queen should have a beard at all times*. I associate his beard with his actually gaining a personality.
2. As
lordrexfear noted in the last comment thread, the big issue here is that, while many of the books are good launch points, they're not really launching a universe well here. There's nothing wrong with going in medias res, but in some cases (notably Hawk and Dove, and Stormwatch and JLI to a lesser extent), it seems to be the same medias we had pre-relaunch, while other books seem to be fully rebooting. Or to put it another way, where's the editorial direction? Mind you, we may get that question answered, but there's no answer yet.
*yes, you can go ahead and make your "the beard is named 'Dinah' joke here.
