Head's up -- someone clearly hacked the playername/email database, and players are getting this email:

Dear Yendi,

Try the new version of "Kingdom of Loathing". The new KoL looks cool! Download and run the installer ([direct link to malware redacted, but from www.kingdomsofloathing.com, which is only one letter off from the real game's url]).

KoL is, and always will be, free to play.

If you have received this message in error, please ignore it -- you will not be contacted again.

Needless to say, that email is malware, and you should NOT click on the link in the message.

Thanks for the heads-up; I haven't played in a while, so I might have been tempted to try that.

(I'd like to believe I wouldn't have fallen for it, as I have never fallen for such a thing before, but you never know for certain.)

I got 2 emails out of 4 accounts (all made long before ascension was a possibility).

I still can't believe people would click a .exe off an email from anyone. I saw it, went "uh huh" and went to the website, nothing about a "new version" so I ignored it.

At first I thought it was legit, but something didn't sit right with me (subconsciously I must have seen the extra 's'). Then I saw the update on the website that said they were hacked. Go go gadget gut feelings!
