David Yates will be adapting Doctor Who as a movie, with a new star and a revisit of the mythos.

There's absolutely nothing that can go wrong with this plan, as far as I can tell, and I'm looking forward to seeing the smooth transition of the character, complete with full fan buy-in.

Now if only I could find my damned /sarcasm tag.

Somehow, I must have missed noting the intense popular demand... I missed it especially thoroughly reading the comments to that article...

What, you don't think people have been clamoring for this? ;-)

Well, they would be if Tennant were in it...

(Yes, I also remember the Peter Cushing movies. As well as the Richard E. Grant Doctor, the Rowan Atkinson Doctor, etc.)

(1) I will believe there is a Dr. Who movie when I am sitting in the theater watching it, and not before. They have been talking about doing a film since Tom Baker's day.

(2) Under no circumstances should Americans be involved, unless they are (a) only there to give the Brits money or (b) already fans.

I was thinking of the McGann thing, but I'm not surprised you've not heard of it... no-one's heard of it.

Even if (2), they should only be involved as (1). So many American fans (and i09) don't understand the concept that Doctor Who is actually wildly popular. Like, more popular than most American TV shows. More people watch it than watch nearly any scripted show in the US. I loved reading all the comments on those articles that were essentially "Oh it's just a fringe show that nobody watches"..

At this point, they could just dust off the last movie script. It really wasn't that bad, it just had no relation to continuity.
