When I purchased a new laptop almost two years ago, I went over to Comet, a British appliance chain where we've been quite happy. Over the past almost 12 years, we've purchased a washing machine, tumble dryer, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, DVR, bread machine and food processor there. In other words, we've been pleased with their customer service. (I've since learned that particular branch is one of the top-rated branches in the country.)
So, when I bought the laptop and they heard my accent, they asked me what I thought of Best Buy. At that time, Best Buy was just in the process of coming over here. (They opened up branches later in 2010.) They'd heard that Best Buy had excellent customer service and they were worried about the competition.
I told them not to worry -- that Best Buy was horrible. I used to live near one and I avoided it. They looked relieved.
You know, it's funny. We were in there earlier this week--I wanted to buy a cord to connect my iPhone to my Jeeps' audio system--and at one point we were looking at tablets and laptops. Someone came over and asked us if we had cable. I took one look, saw it was a Direct TV shill, and told him we were very happy with our cable service and we weren't interested in talking to him.
Unbelievable, that they want to annoy and drive customers away, and that they're doing it so well.

Best Buy has been pulling crap like this for years, which is why I will pay twice as much at another store rather than give them my money. I'm glad that it's finally getting national press.
I just ignore the store cleks and pretend they don't exist. Eventually the walk away in a daze. The thing that annoys me about best buy is how tiny their computer game section has gotten. It used to be four long aisles of stuff. Now it's a small section of two aisles. And they don't showcase the computers any more. Just a few laptops and two desktops computers in the store.
