On the day when lots of, for lack of a better phrase, aggrandizing lies are being told about one sports legend, here's a great piece about a sports figure who really will be leaving this earth too soon.

(And yeah, watching the '86 series remains one of my favorite moments ever. But even after learning about how ill-behaved most of the '86 folks were, it was hard not to love Carter.)

Ah, but for some of us, hating anyone wearing that uniform was sheer delight. :)

I was very saddened to hear about Carter's situation. But as I've learned twice in the last fifteen years, fair just doesn't enter into it.

Yeah. Those were my Mets. That just completely sucks. Carter was totally the nerdy good guy.
