Google did not do a doodle honoring Cesar Chavez on Easter. They did a doodle honoring Chavez on his fucking birthday. The fact that the days overlap is coincidental.

Also, Caesar and Hugo Chavez are different people. And neither of them is Julio César Chávez.

My parents are from Yuma (where Chavez was born) and my dad used to be heavy into FFA stuff, so I grew up learning about Cesar Chavez. I love that Google went with him rather than Easter shit.

*nod* I'm basically on it because of co-workers and high-school-classmates (and thankfully, the idiocy I saw was by friends of friends). Fine for quick tweet-like things, but not for real conversations.

Chavez is important recent history that too many people are ignorant of; few people are ignorant of Christianity (other than a particularly vocal group of folks who claim to represent it, ironically enough).

The thing is, they've already done Easter. It's not like they're anti-Christian in the slightest (side note: a search of their doodles shows no Passover Doodle, but I'm sure none of the folks up in arms give a crap about that).

I must confess, I didn't follow up past that to see how long it took people to notice.

I mean, I would EXPECT there'd be a pile of deniers saying "No That's Hugo Chavez" and a bunch more just ignoring the issue, but I didn't check. I was only seeing how long it took before *someone* noticed.

If someone's Christian sensibilities are offended by Cesar Chavez... I think it's fair to say that they're doing it wrong.
