The Obama administration has essentially just given the middle finger to Utah Head Bigot Gary Herbert.

Yes, the Federal Government is going to recognize the marriages that were legally performed in Utah before Governor Herbert decided to put his bigoted foot down.

This is, at the least, going to make for fascinating political theatre, and will hopefully also result in a human rights victory.

Eventually this issue, like any civil rights issue, is going to have to be settled in the Supreme Court. Just like civil rights for blacks, gays are going to need a win in the Supreme Court. In the 50's and 60's, all the sit ins, marches and other non-sense didn't move the county foreword that much. It took wins in the Supreme Court with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Gays need a Browder v. Gayle type of win to settle this issue once and for all.
