Feb. 16th, 2002 06:36 pmhttp://www.hkfilm.net/disney/ has an interesting petition, and one I agree with. But I'm not sure I'll be signing it. Frankly, given Disney's track record with both their Hong Kong line and their Anime (still waiting for my DVD of Kiki, dammit, although the Mouse is taking their own petition for it at http://psc.disney.go.com/disneyvideos/moviefinder/products/1509103.html ), and the fact that they're pulling money in hand over foot, I can't imagine that they really think there's enough money to be made to bother distributing the movies properly, or to assign someone to the films who actually cares. And as long as I can get import DVDs, I can't say I really care, either -- I'll just get the films the way they were meant to me seen.
We went through our SFBC mailer today, and there was an insert for graphic novels. It turned out that we had something like nineteen out of the twenty graphic novels they listed, and the only reason we didn't have the complete set was that it was Ultimate X-Men, and Mark Millar is quite possibly the worst writer to ever grace this planet (I'm still seriously considering tearing my copy of The Authority: Under New Management in half where the Warren Ellis stuff ends and the writing quality plunges downhill at about ninety degrees). The others ranged from Ultimate Spidey and some of the Marvel Visionaries (Smith on Daredevil, Simonson on Hulk), to Preacher and other not-for-kids stuff. Our collection is getting out of hand, and we consider ourselves picky (don't even get me started on our "regular" book collection).
