Warning -- potential tmi (and not the sexual kind):

So, since I've become Elayna's father figure, I've managed to have to deal with many of the usual fatherhood "firsts" in a compressed period of time. I handled the first time having to wipe her with aplomb, I adjusted to the idea of giving her a bath easily enough, and the first (and so far only) bedwetting was no problem at all.

But tonight, I got to deal with something that fathers who raise a child from infancy are used to -- getting thrown up on.

Elayna was sitting on the couch, and she'd mentioned that she hadn't been feeling well. All of a sudden, she cried out as if something had hit her. She said her tummy was cramping, and her throat was hurting. Paying way too much attention to the later symptom, I had her open her mouth so I could take a look. Next thing I knew, she'd thrown up all over my legs. By the time she made it to the bathroom, she'd thrown up two more times.

I'd like to think I handled things admirably. I've got a gag reflex when it comes to vomit -- the single most nauseating thing, for me, is the smell or sight of other people throwing up. Nevertheless, I held it in, and managed to get everything cleaned up. Followed by a quick trip to Kroger (in different pants, of course) for some gatorade so she could replace some bodily fluids. The poor kid. I've seen her sick before, but usually after the throwing up has happened, or with other illnesses. She was so weak afterwards. We're just hoping she'll sleep well tonight.

Gotta say, I could definitely deal with not being vomitted on ever again. :-) Just plain gross.
