May. 22nd, 2002 10:14 amSo I'm about halfway through Dead Until Dark now, and really getting into it. The Anita Blake comparisons are valid, to a point, but unlike Anita, this narrator/protagonist starts out as a true innocent -- both physically, and spiritually -- she's never dabbled in dark arts, and has avoided using her powers as much as she can. No experience zombie master/vampire slayer here. So her ignorance of vamp society makes a lot more sense.
There's plenty of erotic moments, but never at the expense of the plot or characters (the latter being stronger than the former, which is really just an old fashioned small-town mystery). I'll be adding the sequel to my Amazon wishlist soon.
