I'm trying to avoid missing deadlines, and actually planning a few columns in advance.

This week: Manga -- Eagle, and maybe the manga of Evangelion (which is much better than I expected).

Next: Indies for geeks -- Nodwick, Dork Tower, PVP, and Knights of the Dinner Table

Week after: Sci-fi week. Finder, and I'm still trying to find something else that deserves to be mentioned in the same column. I really wish Wandering Star and Galaxion hadn't ended/gone on hiatus, respectively. Akiko is a bit too well-known for my readers. And Zot's ancient history.

Ah well. I've got a few weeks to decide.

What about something for us comic neophytes? Or is that not where the column is directed? I read them, but, frankly, they're way over my head. :)

I (and melintur) owe you our eternal gratitude for informing me about Transmet, so I'm looking for more life-changing comics.

Good idea! Some not-bad ones there, although most are out for one reason or another (including sucking, in the case of Negation). But I totally forgot about A Distant Soil, and there are a few others to check out. Like I said, I've got some time to hunt 'em down, so I'm not too worried.

Well, the column is aimed at the typical Chud reader, who's pretty comics-savvy, in a mainstream sort of way (Superman, Spidey, even Transmet), but not as exposed to the smaller books. So it's aimed more between the neophytes and the experts.

Which doesn't mean I wouldn't be happy to give you recommendations, of course. :-)

http://www.sequentialtart.com is a great place for neophytes -- I think you and melintur would get lots out of the site, especially the suggested reading section (http://read.sequentialtart.com). Hell, everyone would get a lot out of them. All of you -- visit ST now!

I didn't collect Eagle. I never had any exposure to it before I started getting Previews monthly and though the blurb sounded interesting there, my budget was filled out with other items by that point and it also seemed a little late to be stepping into it.

I figured it might be. Aside from the expense, it's also a pretty American-centric book. It's definitely worth collecting the graphic novels if there's ever a spare moment in the budget.
