No real posts, 'cuz I haven't had time. And Emory email is down (LearnLink is fine, of course, but emory.edu is hosed), so no idea if any lj comments are awaiting me, or even "real" email. WIll post a real update sometime soon, but in the meantime, had to vent about one thing: Robert Forward died yesterday. This has been a shitty year for science-fiction greats, alas. For those with any remaining doubts about the fairness of the universe, I'd like to point out that Mercedes Lackey and Piers Anthony are still hacking away.

fortunately, josiah has never read mercedes lacking.

UNfortunately, piers anthony was one of his favorite authors as a kid. sci-fi/fantasy is just one thing off limits in our conversations. :)

i don't know who the author is you mentioned, but i trust your general taste in authors & bemoan his passing as well. the world needs more good authors.

Hell, Piers was one of my favorite authors as a kid, too. But I grew up (and even worse, I read Firefly).

Forward was damned good. Not top-notch, but very big on making sure that all his science was accurate, while still keeping the characters believable.
