Tuesday ramblings
Oct. 1st, 2002 09:55 amSo, last night involved working late, because as a part of Educause (the big national conference for academic technology), there was a big Blackboard (the crappy-ass product that's the Microsoft of E-Learning) thingee on campus. Wasn't required, per se, but was very useful. BB6 is almost a good enough product to be released to the public, unlike the previous versions, which all struck me as alpha, at best.
As I got off the bus on the way home, I saw the new Book Nook location that I posted about yesterday, and had to hit the DVD section -- got Monsters, Inc and Total Recall for $26.
Got home in time to read to Elayna (we read the first four chapters of "The Fairy's Mistake" by Gail Carson Levine, and by the fourth chapter, she was insisting on reading every other page herself). Then, after putting her to bed,

Afterwards, now really ready for bed, I caught
So, after midnight, I finally went to bed.
Upon waking up at 5:30, I noticed that the light in the living room was on, so Elayna got up early. After I showered and got dressed, I wandered in to her room, and there she was, reading The Fairy's Mistake. So I didn't interupt her, and went to pack lunches for everyone and make coffee. When she finally came out of her room to go to the bathroom, I asked her when she got up, and she said "5:45." I think she thinks we're going to be mad if she wakes up too early. Hell, I'm an imsomniac, and Shadesong's usually a night owl. We both understand nights when sleep doesn't come too easily. So I told her that I woke up at 5:30, and she corrected herself and told me that she woke up at 5:29. Um, yeah. I didn't pursue it, but I told her I wouldn't be upset at her getting up early, just that I'd worry if she didn't get enough sleep.
It turns out that she read four chapters in whatever time she had.
Anyway, I thought today was the first day of Educause, but it's really tomorrow, so I can spend the day on documentation.
18.7 points left in the day -- I had an Amy's Breakfast Burrito (four points) and some meringue cookies so far (another two), plus a little non-dairy creamer and sugar for the other points. I lost 1.5 pounds in the first week, which is a decent start, I guess. I think I may need to be careful about my points, though -- I'm at a bit over 200, and once you go under 200, you hit a different point range, so I suspect that by being right on the cusp, I'm eating a few more calories than expected/needed.
Anyway, lunch is going to be the Smart Ones psuedo-Lean Pocket I brought in, which is another five points, giving me plenty for a decent dinner, even if I get a snack at any point.
Tonight is the Tremors episode of Buffy. Looked fun from the previews. DItto Smallville, with it's "Lex falls in love . . . with a woman!" plotline, and Gilmore Girls, which looks like it'll be the emotional show of the three, with Rory having it out with her dad. Looks like a fun night of tv (followed by crashing hard from lack of sleep, I suspect).
