I was hopping around Amazon, and found the page where they chart how many reviews you've written, how many purchases you've shared, etc. My reviewer rank is 173891, which actually places me in the top 50%, it seems. Not bad for only having written two reviews. But five out of five folks have liked what I had to say, which helps. :-)

I went through a phase. I'm number 9,030, 28 reviews written, 75 helpful votes. I think my best is 15 of 15 for the co-sleeper.

How do you find what percent you are?

When I clicked on the "173891," it showed me a list of everyone tied with me, and I could scroll forward or backwards one page. I was page 20943 of 44452, so I figure that puts me in the top 50%. :-)

You can pump your rating by writing positive reviews for popular products. Controversial products hurt your rating. Don't review moulin rouge, for example. Someone will ding you whatever your opinion, and dings hurt more than good reviews help.

I'm not shocked, but that really irks me. I see grading reviews as a responsibility -- I give bad grades to poorly-written reviews, or reviews that tell me nothing ("This rocks!" is a review that I'll always pan). But I don't seek out people who disagree with me, and I don't get people who do. It just doesn't make sense.

I just bumped a couple of yours. Although I do think that Concrete Blonde did a nifty job covering "Everybody Knows" (which is what I'll bet cost you those two folks on the Pump up the Volume soundtrack). :-)

I may be wrong, but I've found that if I write non-controversial reviews of products without much in the way of dissenting opinions, there's a lot of favorable reviews, if I write, anything about controversial stuff, the reviews are mixed.

Probably right about pump up the volume, but I just don't like that cover, and it was a footnote to the movie, especially compared to the original, which was the theme song for the movie. I have to maintian my integrity as a reviewer, it's a matter of principles, dammit! Special interests can't sway me! Not without an actual cash bribe.
