Two movie tidbids from Zentertainment:

Kevin Smith to Write SCARY MOVIE 3
-
Kevin Smith has signed on to executive produce
and co-write SCARY MOVIE 3 for DIMENSION Films.
Director David Zucker (Airplane!) is expected to
begin shooting the comedy sequel this February.

This has me with very mixed feelings. Scary Movie was pretty funny, actually. Scary Movie 2 was wretched in every way imaginable. I'm not sure we need another horror spoof (especially since the nifty Scream if you Know what I did Last Halloween covered the remaining ground), but Smith could come up with interesting jokes. And Zucker was always better when he had his brother and Jim Abraham with him.

NEW LINE Acquires SHAZAM! Rights
-
VARIETY reports NEW LINE is in final negotiations
to acquire the film rights to DC Comics' SHAZAM!.
Michael Uslan (Batman) will be the executive producer
on this project about a young boy given the wisdom
of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina
of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles,
and the speed of Mercury.

For those not aware, Captain Marvel (the hero in the Shazam mythos) was the star of the first live-action superhero film ever made (a Republic serial). Although I haven't really liked any of the recent comic takes on the character, the concept of CM -- a young teenage boy able to transform into a powerful hero -- is one that I think has lots of potential, and has only been explored briefly in such books as Prime and Miracleman.

Obviously, I'll hold my opinion on this one until I see who else is associated with it.

Wasn't Shazam also a TV series back in the 70's or something? I seem to recall this in the dusty unused archives of my mind...
Ah yes, here it is. (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0071050)
