[livejournal.com profile] shadesong and I saw Star Trek: Nemesis (aka Star Trek 10: Attack of the Clones). Was fun. Predictable as hell, but fun. No Matrix Reloaded trailer, though. :-(

I haven't (and won't) seen it but I decided it should be named "When Romulans Attack!" and reshot as a Fox News Special.

Ah, but in one or another of the novels, we discover that the Romulans were so named by humans -- their name for themselves is Rihannsu (or Rihanssu -- it's been so long since I read it that I don't remember the spelling).

Rihannsu Translates back to english as "We also once named the Klingon's home planet Kling so what the fuck do you want from us man?"

God, make the hurting stop!

And people wonder why I dislike anything part the original series and old crew movies. At least they had FUN with being bad. Gah.

Yes, I too was disappointed by the lack of a Matrix trailer. I don't know where I had heard that, but I was kinda expecting one.

Okay, that? That right there? Is why you rock so very hard.

Ah, but the Trek folks have said, time and again, that the books aren't canon.

To be shot out of a cannon - maybe. Canon- no.

[ shrug ]

Joyce and I went to see it this last weekend and, although it didn't appear to be as moving as ST:FC or ST:I, we liked it just fine. While it was a fun movie, I believe it will mark the end of the ST-TNG movies though. With the loss of one of the major characters, it's a good way to go out.

Comments:

  • The "Admiral Janeway" cameo was pointless, unless they're setting us up for a ST:Voyager movie - which I doubt.

  • The Reman ship, Scimitar, was one of the best, second only to the Dreadnought-Class Enterprise from last section of the final episode "All Good Things".

  • The soundtrack will probably not be joining my CD collection.

  • The movie's villain, Praetor Shinzon, is the best since Kahn in ST:TWoK.

So, while it doesn't rate a high score in our book, it rates somewhere in the middle I think - we think.
