Last night's Blood Bowl was fun, if a bit frustrating. I started the half (against [livejournal.com profile] blueingenue's Lizardmen) down 1-0. And my team, given it's standard Chaos Dwarf configuration two games before, would probably have been toast. But with the goblin and a troll (both recent additions), nifty things can happen. Like the goblin picking up the kick, and the troll throwing him within yards of the endzone. Two turns in, it was a tie.

But the thing is, I still haven't figured out how to defend against the damned lizards. The skinks are fucking fast. Within two more turns, one of her little skinks had scored.

Her resulting kickoff led to a clusterfuck, with players on both sides falling down (including my troll), lots of folks blocked in, and finally my goblin grabbing the ball and making a sideline run at the end of turn 6. Yes, two touchdowns in the half -- my gobby's gonna be leveling!

The remaining two turns led to no scoring (although all three knocked out players came back into the game), although one of her skinks was caught trying to foul me.

So now we're going to overtime, to be played sometime this week. I really wanted this game to end, dagnabbit! But at least in overtime, at the rates these teams score, we're not likely to end with another tie.

Afterwards, I got back home, watched The Simpsons, and realized I had a bitching case of insomnia. Didn't hit the bed until 3. Am not functional today.

I think high scoring teams, even if they have weak defense, are a better strategy in general, becauser the players gain skills faster. I think in my next league play, I'll push that sort of strategy, score fast and play very little defense, focusing instead on killing someone while I'm defending, even if it leaves gaping holes in my defense. I may lose, but I'll gain skilled players early in the season, and then I can change strategies.
