So, today was Field Day at Elayna's school. I took the morning off to watch it, although I didn't get to see all of it.

I got there at 9, when it was scheduled to start. No one was there other than other parents. By 9:30, the kids started tromping down to the field (Elayna ran over and gave me a big hug, which is always nice).

THe thing is, they had every class from Pre-K to Third Grade there.

And they ran each of the races all the way through before any class could start the next one. So 3rd Grade boys ran springs. Then 3rd Grade Girls. Then 2nd Grade boys. Etc.

And each class had about seven races (since there were never more than six kids running at one time).

This meant that by the time Elayna had done three races, it was 11:30.

So although I got to see her run sprints, a baloon race (they had to run with a baloon, pop it, and then sprint the rest of the way), and a potato sack race, I missed her team events (tug of war and some sort of water race that we had not really been warned about).

She finished dead last in every one of her races, but since she isn't exactly fast, and since she did try, and since she was having fun, it really didn't matter.

We got to hang out for the downtime between races, which was a blast, and it was a fun day, but man, it was disorganized.

But they at least planned for the heat, and had unlimited oranges and water there for the kids. Elayna could eat nothing but oranges and be happy.

Anyway, I only had to go back about 150 comments to catch up on LJ. You people talk too much. :-)

And now I'm off to more meetings. Blah.
