So, I made the mistake of eating leftover Chinese food for lunch yesterday. It was eggplant and broccoli in garlic sauce, and I'd ordered it Sunday night. I figured, how bad could it get?

I found out.

When we got back home (to a nice order from Westfield, which I'll post about later), I was feeling kinda of ucky, but I figured it would pass. I took Elayna to Karate, and while running some errands, it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I started feeling week, and slightly dizzy. I bought some antacid, figuring I'd just overeaten, but it didn't have any effect.

By the time I got Elayna back home, I was wrecked. My backpack was killing me, and I barely got groceries put away and Elayna fed before I just had to lie down.

After a few minutes, our Buffy Night guests started to arrive. I'd decided I'd watch Buffy, but not the other shows. I went to change the lightbulbs in Elayna's hallway, and damned near fainted, even though I was looking at the lamp fixture (not down, which is what normally induces vertigo for me). At that point, I decided I could miss Buffy

After lying down for a few more minutes, I felt it.

I had to throw up. Understand, I don't throw up very easily. I hate the feeling, I hate the build-up to it. I tend to choke it down whenever I can.

But my body wasn't taking no for an answer.

I made it to the toilet (woohoo!). At first, only a little bit came out. Then, just as I was thinking that I was done, the floodgates opened. Not only did I throw up for about ten seconds straight, but my body decided that those nasal passages were awfully convenient, and sprayed out of the nose, too.

Ick.

I've never been that disgusted by my own sickness. The fact that I couldn't breathe didn't help.

There were a few more cycles (and sometime during this, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong brought me a glass of ice water, which was very needed), and I then went and crashed on the bed again.

I lay there for a while, thinking the worst had passed, when the flu-like symptoms hit. Every fucking inch of my body hurt. And my body heated up, and I started feeling chills.

I know myself well enough to recognize the signs of food poisoning, but there wasn't much I could do, other than lie there. I dozed in and out of sleep for most of the night, avoiding standing whenever possible (since it not only hurt, but also made me dizzy). When [livejournal.com profile] shadesong came to bed, she touched my forehead and found it to be amazingly hot. The funny thing is, I thought my forehead felt cool. Normally, it's the reverse (the fever was at 99.something, for those wondering).

Things are just as bad this morning, so I'll be passing on going to work today. And I doubt I'll be online much, as typing hurts, dammit. And I had to go 225 entries back in my Friends page to see everything that was posted since I last logged in. :-)

Anyway, off to pop some painkillers and try to get some more sleep.

Damn, dude. Get better, quick. I've only been that sick once, and it wasn't food poisoning -- it was the flu -- so I had a little warning it was coming. Having all sudden like that is just too much for my mind to consider! Rest, recover, and come back to us healthy.

In the mean time....sleep is good.

Terribly sorry to hear about you being so ill. I cannot stand to be nauseous either...so not fun. Heres hoping for a quick purge and recovery. I find that taking charcoal in capsule form available at the health food store helps. It absorbs the crap out of your system. Take care be well soon.

I got that sick once. From Chinese food. It wasn't the style of food, it was the fact that the restaurant had gotten a 55 on its inspection report. Of course, it came out in the paper the next week. Not soon 'nuff to help me out, but... oh well. My roommates actually called 911 because I about passed out... It took me 3 years or so before I would eat Chinese again.

Get better soon.

eggplant and broccoli in garlic sauce

Not enough meat in it to keep it safe. :)

Get better soon. Been a long time since I was sick like that. Once or twice from drinking too much, and every time I eat anything with oysters or clams in it.

Ummm, yendi, you probably don't have food poisoning.

Remember that Elayna threw up this week too?

Virus or bacteria going around.

Eyuck. Feel better man, that just sounds terribly unpleasant.

On the bright side, you didn't do what Shane (guy I know) did- he got food poisoning and threw up so hard that he burst blood vessels in both eyes (at least I think that's what happened.) End result: his pupils were surrounded by red instead of white for several days. He looked eeeeevil.

No real way to know without a blood and bacteria test. Which no HMO would ever pay for.
