Tuesday TV thoughts -- final edition
May. 21st, 2003 06:05 pmSo, I watched all three shows today:
Buffy: Wow. Not the greatest episode ever or anything, but damned good. And possibly the best dialogue the series has had, period. Just sharp, and dead-on. The best parts: The conversation between Wood and Faith, Dawn kicking Buffy's shin, and the D&D game. But really, not much to bitch about. The show ended with a sense of closure, and I'm happy.
Poor Anya, though. *sniff*
Smallville: Now this was ten pounds of crap in a five-pound bag. Where to begin -- the out-of-character crap from Jonathan and Chloe? The logistics of a wedding with no power and no best man (and no comments about either one)? The fact that Lana managed to suck the life out of the show whenever she was on?
On the plus side, it was a good episode for Pete, at least. And having General Zod do the voice of Jor-El was a nice piece of stunt casting. And Lionel was fun (and having Lionel conspire with Lex's wife to kill him is fun, in a soap-opera-ish way). . But really, that was about it.
Next season: Lex is rescued by a young blond hunk named Arthur, who takes him to his home beneath the sea, where we get underwater Lex/Aquaman slash.
Gilmore Girls: Damned solid. I can bitch about Lane having almost no resolution to her plotline, but that's about it. Rory was great on this episode, as were all Gilmores. Paris was wonderful (I love the way they've established that her parents have so little meaning for her compared to the maid, not to mention her love for the maid's family). Luke was great (although the dream sequence has potential for suckitude). The Max plotline has apparently been dropped, but that's okay, as it sucked (and Lorelai runs from her problems, anyway). The money issues are resolved in a way that makes sense and is in character. Rory gets the needed closure with both of her exes. Pretty much everything is in the position it should be. I'm really looking forward to next year (although Paris had better be at Yale, dammit!).
