Zatoichi!

Ain't-it-bad-Webdesign is reporting that there's a new series of Zatoichi movies being made! I'm linking to the Chud story, though, as their page is more readable. Anyone not familiar with The Blind Swordsman has missed some of the most influential (and niftiest) Japanese movies of the last fifty years. The movies get shown on IFC on the weekends, for those who want to educate themselves. :-)

I'm more impressed at who is taking over the role.. I mean.. Its friggin Beat Takeshi! Star of the TNN Smash Extreme Elimination Challenge! ;} and he was in a bunch of other stuff heh

I've been in a Samurai state of mind lately.. watched the Lone wolf and Cub movies I own and i'm working through my Zatoichi DVDs.. Need to buy the most recent 3 though.. Almost finished my 5..

Next I need to look for The Razor.. damn uberviolent out of print movies dragging me back to Ebay

I haven't seen his stuff, but I've heard nothing but good things about him.

I'm rarely in a samurai mood (and when I am, the Samurai trilogy, the Yojimbo flicks, and Zatoichi usually suffice), but I'm always willing to expand my list if I come across anything else.

treat yourself.. Go out.. buy the first 4 or 5 Lone Wolf and Cub books.. They are about $10 a pop.. You are a comic geek so your usual haunts should have them.. Dark Horse put them out..

Then start looking for the movies.. Its like they used the comics as storyboards.. Its incredible how close the stories are to the comics
