I was too little to watch the original on tv, but I grabbed all the cheap pulp novels later on.

One of the articles I read said that there would still be parts for the original cast members, including Robert "Freddy" Englund, Marc "Beastmaster" Singer, and Michael "Highlander 2 and Prom Night 2" Ironside.

Aaah! How can you forget his acadamy award nominatable performance in Starship Troopers?
That guy in Forrest Gump played a guy with no legs, and everyone was amazed. Ironside plays a badass with 1 arm, and nobody cares.
Poor Michael Ironside...
