I just watched the strangest porn movie I've ever seen: David Cronenberg's Crash. Okay, it may not technically be a porn movie, but it followed many of the structures of one. It's certainly a damned good movie (not that any Cronenberg movie I've seen has been anything but). It's also disturbing as hell (again, it's a Cronenberg flick), and something I'll probably have to think about for a while. I haven't seen any of his more recent pictures, but I suspect I need to start tracking them down.

He made Holly Hunter look mighty delectable in it...

Yeah, Crash is a trip. I read the book as well, and I recommend it if you felt the movie had something for you.

Cronenberg's latest movie, Spider is most excellent, so I recommend that to you as well. Interesting times. Gets into your mind and wrecks up the place.

Haven't seen it yet...

... but the TiVo is set to record it.

Have you seen eXistenZ yet?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120907/

He ventures down the ol' Videodrome/Naked Lunch path a bit on this one but with a twist. Repulsive in parts, but oddly compelling too.

I believe he enjoys his audience to be riveted to their seats with a sort of morbid curiosity.. stuck, and then he can show whatever he likes.. because we are sold, at that point.

eXistenZ was........... odd.

There's no other word in the human tongue to describe it. Just... odd.

Ok, sure.. odd. I'll allow odd.

But think about this. If "odd" is a dividing line between "sane" and "bugnuts", then eXistenZ wanders down that line..

.. and eraserhead gleefully skips across it, tosses a few mutant babies about, and splashes about in glowing pools of some horrible, noxious substance. Yes, my weird-meter was reset the day I saw *that* movie. Symbolism be damned, I believe I loathe that film!

One of my favourite films, that. ^^

Jennifer Jason-Leigh (the female lead) looked fantastic in it, too.

Nope, J.G. Ballard actually named the main character James Ballard.

James Spader is the impassive rock upon which sex built its home.

Love the movie, love the book. Naturally, my copy was lost in a car crash. Jeez.

One of these nights I'm gonna have a James Spader Smutfest, with Secretary, Crash, and Sex, Lies and Videotape. Maybe even White Palace or whatever the hell that was called with whatserface.

I thought it might have been, but my memory is dubious at best.
