Okay, no problems with either Molitor or Eck making the Hall. They deserve it, hands down.

And Sandburg and Rice moved forward, and may pull a Gary Carter eventually.

But how the hell does Lee Smith fall behind Bruce Sutter? Ditto Goose Gossage. And Joe Carter falling off the ballot? Sheesh.

At least Fernando's off the ballot, as is Cecil Fielder and Keith Hernandez.

And if someone wants to find out who the fifteen crackheads who voted for Pete Rose were, I'd love to know.

If they are going to change their minds and let Rose on the ballot, they are going to have to revisit the Shoeless Joe Jackson issue. He has the 3rd highest career batting average in history (.356). To keep him out and let Rose in is unconscionable.

Cecil Fielder has a fond place in my heart-- I loved watching him, Molitor, and Yount play together when I was a little kid.

ah, okay. I read an article today about the whole "how one gets elected to the HoF." That was my interpretation, that Joe Jackson couldn't even be considered. I could be wrong, though.

No, he’s ineligible. (http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/faq.htm#jackson) The complete ineligible list doesn’t seem to be available on the web, although Fay Vincent (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/02/opinion/02VINC.html) cites Max Lanier as another former player on the list, along with Jackson and Rose.
