Calling all artists!

(Well, not true. I'm not calling [livejournal.com profile] xanadumalion, because she already has Shayara on her plate, and I know I'd catch holy hell if I did anything to get her off of that)

There are any number of incredibly talented artists on my friends page (not citing you by name, because I'll inadvertently leave someone off). [livejournal.com profile] lizlet, a damned fine writer (and fellow columnist for Bookslut) is looking, coincidentally enough, for an incredibly talented artist to work on the comic she's conceived. Info on the project can be found here. Note that there is definitely some graphic stuff here ("still-beating human heart" appears in the synopsis, always a good thing, in my opinion. Then again, I consider Peter Jackson's early movies to be the required viewing for everyone). Check it out -- I want to get the chance to see this comic in print!

Wait, still-beating human hearts are graphic?

Okay, yeah, I suppose... *g*

But thanks for the props and the promotion, man! Much appreciated.

She started speaking it in the 14th century. Hell, now that I think about it it's not even Spanish. She's a pre-Columbus Aztec. Aztecs spoke Náhuatl.

Crap. Crap. I chalk this one up to sleep deprivation.

Seriously, thanks for pointing it out. Kinda a stupid mistake, though not a fatal one. Unless, of course, the blow is to my credibility. *g*

I'm glad I could be helpful. I didn't want to be That Guy but I cringed at some of the trouble you could have gotten into later on. I went to a small liberal arts school so I know how snotty some people can get about colonialism. (Like, you wouldn't want 20 copies of "Cortes the Killer" emailed to you or something.) I've been kind of trained to watch my ass, which is how I stumbled into that little snag. I really think this looks like a cool project. I'm an artist myself but I suck at replication so I'm definitely not the best person for the job. Have you seen [livejournal.com profile] e_apollo's stuff. I'm not sure what you were going for but his stuff is very pretty. Also, [livejournal.com profile] gomichan has a pretty cool webcomic himself and I like his drawing.

I'll check those guys out. And thanks. You're right -- better now than later, especially since the Spanish thing isn't really a big detail and is totally easy to write out of the proposal. In fact, I've done it already! :)

Thing is, I totally am sensitive to the whole colonialism thing and want to make that a factor, make the fact that the culture which oppressed her got the crap oppressed out of it a mere hundred years later. The Spanish thing was just a detail that slipped past my thinking parts. Stupid lack of sleep.

Again, thanks.

While you're checking people out, you might check out [livejournal.com profile] corranhorn. He has a website here (http://www.seanolsondesign.com/) and I know he expressed some interest to me once about drawing a comic.
