Okay, the video for 1985, by Bowling for Soup, just kicks ass (it's in the videos section of the iTunes music store, and probably on Fuse or any other channel you get that plays music videos, which are archaic pieces of entertainment that used to air on MTV in the '80s). Best Robert Palmer moment since his death, and other nifty '80s moments.

(and I like the song more than most pop-punk -- "When did Motley Crüe become classic rock?")

I'm still trying to figure out how Van Halen and G+R became Classic Rock.
Also, I'm stuck on how I a reference I pulled from "The State" (a series from 1993) is "old school".

Well ok, but maybe I should specify it's Van Hagar. Songs like "Loves Comes Walkin In"
Nerf Herder did a song about Van Halen.
It's like that other song they're known for.

Back to topic, I feel the best way to show this is to access a local radio stations website and pull up their playlist.

12:52 p.m. Dream On -Aerosmith
12:48 p.m. Start Me Up -Rolling Stones
12:43 p.m. Feel Like Makin' Love -Bad Company
12:33 p.m. Come Together -Beatles
12:24 p.m. Won't Get Fooled Again -Who
12:18 p.m. Subdivisions -Rush
12:14 p.m. Gimme Three Steps -Lynyrd Skynyrd
12:04 p.m. The Boys Are Back In Town -Thin Lizzy
12:00 p.m. Renegade -Styx
11:54 a.m. Long Distance Runaround/The Fish -Yes

11:43 a.m. T.N.T.-Ac/Dc
11:39 a.m. Pride (In The Name Of Love) -U2
Looking for an ad you heard?
11:28 a.m. Run Like Hell -Pink Floyd
11:25 a.m. Suffragette City -David Bowie
11:23 a.m. Immigrant Song -Led Zeppelin/Robert Plant
11:19 a.m. Dancing In The Street -Van Halen

11:01 a.m. We're An American Band -Grand Funk Railroad
10:57 a.m. Point Of Know Return -Kansas
10:53 a.m. Photograph -Def Leppard

Ok for the most part but What is U2 and Def Leppard doing on there?

Pull up a playlist for your area, I'd like to see what you find.
Actually, I take that back. To be fair, because we live in the Southern US, you may not find anything by Neil Young or CCR. The local station here calls itself "Southern Rock" to justify playing these newer songs...even though it's recognized by Arbitron as Classic Rock.

Frankly I'm just in search of new music, new rock you know. I mean Jet's ok and this Mouse band or whatever is looking good. However, I find it odd the promo guy tells you how they play the "The NEW rock first" then follows it up with "Evenflow" or "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
Not that I hate those songs, but music that came out when I used to have the Flock of Seagulls haircut and hammer pants is hardly NEW rock.

It's the snark value.
