Baseball been very very good to me.
Oct. 12th, 2004 09:00 amWent to the Braves/Astros game last night. Believe it or not, it was my first live playoff game ever (in spite of living in New York during the Yankees late '70s run and the Mets late '80s run, and having been in Atlanta since the curring dynasty began). It was also a blast. Good to see the Braves lose, as always (although it's hard to muster up any real hatred for Jaret Wright, who deserved better than to have Reitsma appear in relief). Good to see two of the classiest future Hall of Famers, the Killer B's, finally advance a round in the playoffs.

jet_li_wannabe), after Furcal hit a homer: "Man, he really wants to stay out of jail."
Furcal, of course, is famous as the inventor of the Rafael Furcal Drinking Game.
It was an exciting game until Reitsma came in. Lots of energy, lots of good action on the field. Lots of powerball by both teams. Some nice defense. Some annoying between-innings crap because Braves fans couldn't possibly just want to cheer on their own or talk about the game. The usual.
As for the next round, I've got no real preference in either game. I want either of the National League teams to beat either of the American League ones. That's because the NL teams include folks like Edmunds, Bagwell, Pujols, and Biggio, and the AL teams are the Yankees and Red Sox. That said, I can't imagine the Cards not making the Series (nor would things have been any different if the Braves had won), but I'm honestly not as sure about the AL contests. The Sox are the better team in general, but the Yankees are the Yankees (and the Sox, of course, are the Sox), which means that all rules go out the window. If Pedro still meets his "daddy," I can't see them winning.
As for my Mets, hiring Minaya is wonderful. Firing the Wilpons would be better.
