Monday stuff
Oct. 18th, 2004 08:29 amMiss Kid is sick, so I'm at home today.
First, head over to Two Headed Cat, where you can find
shadesong's latest column! You can also find nifty stuff by a whole slew of writers Murnkay has assembled, including the debut column by
yuki_onna!
Okay, why didn't anyone tell me that Christopher Moore had a new book out? And why don't I own it yet?
(Aside: Chris's site is an example of "How not to run a blog," as he uses PHPBB instead of a blogging tool, and thus you have to click on each entry.)
Anyone who hasn't read Christopher Moore has missed out on one of the funniest authors alive. His titles alone are wonderful. This one's called The Stupidest Angel : A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror. 'Tis the season, etc.
Went over to
jet_li_wannabe's last night and saw Saved, which was damned funny, even if it didn't cut quite as deep as it needed to. Still, a damned worthwhile movie, and it almost makes me like Macaulay Culkin (something nigh-impossible, in light of how much I hate his early films, which, to be fair, are really the fault of Chris Columbus). Some great performances, a few nifty concepts, and a wonderful sense of irony make for a fun viewing.
In sports, I'm glad my Gang Green is 5-0, but there's no way they'll be 6-0. They played a terrible first half against the Niners, and the Pats will eat them for breakfast. But I enjoyed at least part of the second half. Vilma getting his first INT is wonderful, Abraham scored another pair of sacks, and Martin has just been unbelievable. 5-1 was way better than I'd hoped for to start the season, even with their schedule.
And those baseball games. Wow. Stayed up to watch the end of the Yanks/Sox, and it was worth it. There's no better matchup in baseball, imho. And on the Senior Circuit, Beltran is just unbelievable.
JLSquee! Morena Baccarin will be voicing Black Canary on the JLU cartoon! And the same episode features Amy Acker as Huntress and the return of Jeffrey Combs as Question! And rumor has it that Adam Baldwin and Nate Fillion will be on the show as well later on (not necessarily with Morena). It's Whedonriffic!
Oh, and speaking of Firefly, for anyone not doing anything else this Sunday (like, oh, getting married), you can host or attend a High Stakes Party, at which Joss will explain, via conference call, why Dick Cheney is a centuries-old evil being whose dark powers must be thwarted by finding the jar in which he's buried his heart and smashing it. Or something like that. The point is, it's a Joss-centric, anti-Bush party, which is a good thing (our wedding will be roughly the same, although probably with less of the Joss-centric stuff).
