Eating out and other Thursday stuff
Mar. 24th, 2005 11:47 amWe took Elayna to Floataway Cafe last night, in what was probably her first time eating at an "adult" restaurant. It's not that she doesn't go out, but even Maggiano'ss is pretty kid-friendly. But we wanted to all be able to enjoy a nice meal at a good restaurant for the first time in, oh, ever, and Elayna pinky-promised to behave.
After a little bit of whining at the beginning, she soon was fine, telling us that the fettuccini with tomato sauce was excellent, eating some bread, and simply raving over the incredibly rich chocolate sorbet. She's still a picky eater, but she's getting the hang of enjoying a meal out like adults.
As for us adults,
docorion and I split some oysters to start with (while the seafood-phobic womenfolk were horrified), then
shadesong had a potato pizza with truffles,
docorion had a prosciutto tortellini, and I had scallops. Dessert-wise,
docorion had a grapefruit granita,
shadesong went for a a flour-less chocolate cake with vanilla whipped cream, and I had profiteroles. All-in-all, we were sated and then some. :-)
(note that the menu on the web page is a sample -- they change menus daily).
Afterwards, we got a visit from
photognome and
karlita, and watched Boondock Saints. I was, alas, too exhausted to stay up for the entire movie, but forced myself to stay awake at least through the hotel scene -- Dafoe's crime-scene deductions are my favorite part of the movie (although I love everything about the film).
Elsewhere, I'm rather shocked at how uneven the results of my morning poll have been so far. I really figured that the higher profile of the Dokken song and the associated movie would move it ahead (although I suspect that at least a few voters are simply voting on name recognition -- my own fault for not including a "shiny button"). Then again, judging by the recent results, it could just be that Dokken fans sleep later. :-)
Now, tired. Need caffeine.
