yendiLike many people, I rely pretty heavily on autocomplete when surfing the web -- just typing "macin" will cause Safari to fill in "www.macintouch.com," for example.
Like many people, I also sometimes type too quickly for autocomplete to catch up, and sometimes hit return on a dead website (macin.com, for instance, which is a placeholder site).
One case where autocomplete seems to fail more often than others is when I attempt to go to newsarama.com. I often just type "newsa" and hit return before Safari has caught up (this is a function of the last 4/5 of "newsa" being so close together on the keyboard). This, of course, sends me to "newsa.com," one of zillions of sites set up to catch failed autocompletes and typos. Many of these (like, say, livejourna.com) are set up with search engines, but really established as a way to offer Google or other ads. But newsa.com is set up solely to sell the domain name. And they want $890 for it.
Yes, $890 (says so right on the front page) for a placeholder site that, as far as I can tell, only the occasional comics geek or an extremely clumsy-fingered visitor to cnet's news.com would end up at.

assassingalaxia points out this article on the World Barista Championships. Yes, he won with a drink featuring pepper, espresso, and lavender. Not sure how I feel about that.
I metlbitw last night (shadesong had already met him) last night, and we introduced him to the wonders that are Robot Chicken and Sealab. I'm pretty sure that the "Shrabster" episode is one that we'll never delete from the Tivo, if we can help it. This week's Robot Chicken was also probably the funniest and most consistent one to date.
Work today is stress, stress, stress. And more stress. One of those "maybe I should go walkabout" days. Not a good day. Not at all. Exacerbated by the fact that I'll be in training tomorrow and Thursday. I do not understand why offices don't keep something like Gungans or Republicans in a cage so that we can let our stress out. Man, that would rock.
But I take some solace in the fact that Dead as a Doornail, the latest Charlaine Harris book, comes out in two weeks. And I've got a gift certificate with its name written on it (well, it's a virtual gift certificate, and it's really got my name on it, but the point is, it means that I don't have to bitch too much about Harris transitioning to hardcover, or worry that our current money issues will prevent me from getting it). Yay for Sookie!
And speaking of Sookie (ooh, segue!), new Gilmore Girls tonight! Followed by new Veronica Mars! And the latter is what has me really excited. Honestly, if I had to choose between Lost and VM, I'd pick the UPN show in a heartbeat. Hell, I already chose it over Scrubs.
Still, the crap is definitely overwhelming the good. Especially since my mail.app seems to be hosed. Gotta restart the computer to see if I can get it working. If I'm forced to use webmail, there will be a fucking Gungan genocide.

OTOH, you could set up a site that claims SomethingAwful.com has sold out and now sucks, and here's your attempt to re-create the site at its hay-day.
