Random Friday stuff
Apr. 29th, 2005 10:33 amYesterday, when we went to pick up Elayna from school, she told us the results of the final seating test at band -- our baby landed first chair for flute! Rock! She'd never landed higher than fourth chair before (there are currently eight flautists, although there were ten at the beginning of the year). Our kid rocks.
And then the school had a parenting fair last night at which the band performed, so we got to see her in action, and not only was she wonderful, but the entire band has improved a ton since I last saw them (the Winter Holiday Concert). They're solid. Can't wait until their next concert (next week), when they perform with two other bands.
This morning, on the other hand, my daughter wasn't exactly as sharp, deciding that she needed to wash her new sneakers because they were (slightly) dirty from gardening. This involved holding them under running water in the sink. Needless to say, her sneaks were too wet for school, and since her other sneakers were in school, she had to wear less comfy shoes. Points for initiative, though.
Last night, we watched the second episode of Cowboy Beebop (we started Tivoing it when they started showing the series from the beginning), so I finally can put a name to
sff_corgi's icon. I'm enjoying the show, and it's one of the few animes that seems to work for both 'song and me.
Woke up at the perineum of the morning, as
shadesong is off to Boston as I write this (flight's due in early, even!), and her cab thus had to get here pre-dawn. Kissed her goodbye, made myself some eggs and strong coffee, and had a relatively relaxing morning (before the wet shoe incident). I'll be that I don't stay up too late tonight, though.
Elsewhere, TIger DIrect is suing Apple for releasing an OS named Tiger. Gotta love their timing. Judging from some of the Slashdot comments, Tiger Direct isn't exactly a company I'm impressed with.
They didn't post the schedule ahead of time, but for those of you following Mark Dawson's run on the Jeopardy UTOC, it ended earlier this week, as he finished in second place in his second round match, two days after Robin Carroll was knocked out. Dammit -- so much for the local contingent.
Just came down from the library's book sale (the first one in three or four years). Found four of the Sue Grafton books that I didn't have yet for a quarter apiece. In spite of my recent decision to attempt to stick to borrowing these books from the library, it's hard to beat that price. Alas, nothing else amazing (although there was a nice selection of older Leslie Charteris and Agatha Christie novels). Still, 4/$1 was more than worthwhile.
Gah. Need more coffee.

Date: 2005-04-29 02:39 pm (UTC)And I adore Cowboy Bebop - it's probably my all-time favorite anime. I wish I had someone I could force to watch the whole series because there's a lot to enjoy about watching someone watch it for the first time. It has something of everything in it and the music is fantastic (it's the only anime soundtrack I've ever bought).
