I see dead people. In Japan.
May. 25th, 2005 08:56 amWatched The Eye last night, which was neither all that nor a bag of a chips. It certainly wasn't bad, per se, but it was easily the most westernized J-horror film I've seen in years (all they needed was a sex scene), which makes you wonder why they'd bother with an American remake. A couple of nifty moments, but nothing all that original. It is nice to see a slower-paced horror flick that works on creepiness as a motivator, but too many films have done it better. And the out-of-nowhere Final Destination scene did nothing to help matters.
I do want to re-edit it to have the kid in the hallway saying, "I want my two dollars," instead of, "have you seen my report card." That'd be a lot more amusing.
Otherwise, watched my Mets lose again. Really, who needs horror movies when you're a Mets fan?
And we introduced Elayna to The Empire Strikes Back yesterday. Finally exposing her to the classics. I told her this morning that today, she'd see her first Ewok. She asked what that was, to which her mommy replied only, "jub-jub."
(And yeah, I hate the Ewoks, but this is a child who still thinks that Jar-Jar was a great creation, and compared to him, the Ewoks are practically Shakespearean).
shadesong and
kaosfox saw Episode 3 last night. As I've stated before, I've got no intention of paying good money to see it, but 'song said she enjoyed it.
Oh, I did catch the season finale of Medium, finally. Damned fine. Haven't watched the season finale of House yet.
Oh, and
laurel, over at TVpicks.net, reports that The WB will re-air the season finale of Gilmore Girls next Tuesday, allowing those of us who were fucked over by the network's asshat programmers to see the whole episode.
Speaking of that site, TVPicks can also use your help, given some nasty financial news over there.
And finally, tonight's the season finale of Lost! Woohoo!

Date: 2005-05-25 01:01 pm (UTC)It's just so bizarre to watch her come at this from the opposite direction from where someone who grew up with the original trilogy was all "Woo, we get to see how Vader became evil!" when this all first started.

Date: 2005-05-25 01:11 pm (UTC)Amen! Preach, brother, preach. I keep trying to explain this concept to the people in my workplace and elsewhere, and we keep having these Rosencrantz & Guildenstern conversations.
"But you have to go see it...It's a Star Wars movie."
"No, actually, it's not."
pause
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean what I said."
"But you said it's not a Star Wars movie."
"It's not"
pause
"But it says Star Wars in the title."
"That doesn't make it a Star Wars movie. You see, Star Wars is based on the premise that mythologies are still being made, and they're made for grown-ups. It's about people making choices and having faith and realizing their potential, not about politics or special effects."
silence
"But you said it wasn't a Star Wars movie...it is, and you have to go see it."

Date: 2005-05-25 01:16 pm (UTC)But I love love love Arliss Howard's voice. He could talk me to sleep, just by reading the phone book, and I'd have sweet dreams all night long. *sigh*

Also, I actually saw The Eye. It scared =me=! But then I don't watch horror movies, generally, so I'm not an average audience. I can't quite remem... ohhh right, that was the ending. Heh. I kinda liked it, in a "GET OUT OF MY CHAIR!!!!!!!!" kind of way.

Date: 2005-05-25 09:32 pm (UTC)Some bad dialog, some bad scenes that could have been cut, but overall very good. Go ahead and rent it when it comes out. ;)
