Bad: Our Tivo modem is clearly injured, possibly fatally. When I got home yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong mentioned to me that incoming calls all went straight to a busy signal (which should never happen, since we have voice mail). After much troubleshooting, I unplugged the Tivo, and everything worked just fine. That said, the Tivo made a test call just fine. If it can still make the data calls (it had already done so yesterday, so no way to test until today), we can just plug it in twice a week or so and have it call in. If it can't make the calls at all, we've got two weeks before it enters the Great Tivo Graveyard. :-( I've had my Tivo for over five years, dammit.

On the plus side, we watched a couple of shows, including the latest Robot Chicken. And we noticed that the latest Harvey Birdman commercial has a "real" phone number. It's 877-MANBIRD, and I highly recommend that any fan of the show calls it. :-)

Also watched the season premiere of the new Surreal Life, which has some interesting potential, mainly due to the fact that the cast seems to be the least likable one ever (and I coined a term last night: Sexual Harassment Pinchot!).

You can go into the settings and turn off "auto-detect if phone line is in use", that will tell Tivo to disable the modem until it's time to make its daily call. The drawback is it may try dialling out while you are on the phone.

The other option is to break down and get a Tivo NIC. http://www.9thtee.com is the place I direct most people to get their mods. Unless you have a DirectTivo, a NIC will free your dvr from the phone line and make downloads a snap.

You can return it to Tivo to have them work on it. When our modem died in our old Series 1 (way out of warranty), it cost only $100 to have them fix it.

Understood...see if TiVo will let you transfer the lifetime subscription from old to new?

We don't have a lifetime subscription. We'll probably get one on the new TiVo, though.

Oh! Then getting a new Tivo is absolutely the right way to go. I think they're offering a stupidly good deal on new Tivo's now. (http://www.tivo.com/2.1.asp)

Shiny...

We're hoping to hold out til our anniversary, as Dad sorta promised us a TiVo DVD recorder. Jokingly, as at the time they cost a thousand bucks. But now that they're cheaper and the TiVo might be deceased...

Yeah. If it is fried, if it can't pull down new data, we're getting our asses over to Sears pronto.

Personally, I didn't think Pinchot did anything wrong outside of being a slight perv and rather touchy feely. I've known guys sort of like him and they're generally harmless. Though the, "we're going to hook up" was a bit creepy.

Janice just took it way to damn far. That woman has drama whore written all over her face. I wish Pepa would have let her leave.

I like watching Celebrity Fit Club and The Surreal Life because I like watching celebs break down. It's a sick fetish of mine. I think the Surreal Life would be even better if they tossed a few ordinary folks in with the celebs.
