Man, that was a fun game last night. And former Met Jose Vizcaino briefly was a hero! And then Scott Fucking Podsednik hits a homer off of Brad Lidge? I mean, I hit as many homers during the regular season as Posdenik (seriously).

And no, I'm not counting the 'Stros out. After all, my beloved '86 Mets lost the first two at home agains a 'Sox team, too. Granted, they had the power of Lots of Cocaine driving them, but they also had heart.

Oh, look, by the way: Baseball is upset about the current Got Milk campaign. You know what? If the sport had ever pretended to actually give a shit about steroids, I might have some sympathy for them.

In other sports news, I continue to love my Isles, not just because I'll be an Isles fan until I die, but because they generate headlines like Satan Riding Sudden Hot Streak.

Thank goodness someone admits it. If Buckner had been wired to the teats on fine Bolivian Marching Powder, maybe we would've won that year. :)

But, but... lightning quick reflexes! An imperviousness to pain! Something could've helped... shots of cortisone, a walker... something.

I still bear the scars.

If I remember this properly, it was Mookie Wilson who hit that ball.
And if I am remembering this properly, Buckner had 2 bad wheels, he wouldn't have beaten Mookie to the bag even if he made the play. Mookie was lightning in a bottle fast.

How about getting John McNamara off Valium during that Game Six? Then maybe he doesn't yank Clemens, or might recognize that Schiraldi and Stanley had nothing...

That's the anti-drug campaign I'd like to see.

Mr. Jerel was telling me about the milk campaign. I laughed my ass off, because it's so clever.

Not only did the Mets have The Power of the Coke, but they had the Power of the Choke (the Red Sox choke) working for them. I was shocked the Sox won games 1 and 2 that year. I expected them to be swept, because, you know, they were the Sox. Nobody loses more spectacularly than they do. Going for the full series sucked, because it gave us hope.

That was indeed great postseason baseball. Punch and counterpunch, act and react ... it was awesome. And Pods' home run was unbelievable. He now has TWO in the postseason after the big goose egg during the regular season.

I always thought the Sox would eventually fold this year, since they were riding a good wave of luck (ridiculous record in one-run games), but it never happened. Teams get special seasons like this once in a generation (mine was the 1984 Tigers, so I know I'm doomed to never see it again), so for the South Side fans, I hope they finish the deal. And it'd be nice to see a Central team take it, so we can stop hearing about how much our division sucks ass.

Good point. :) But my way, my team gets to play the World Champs 19 times next year, so I'm a little biased.

You have no idea what these games are doing to me. It's like I'm dating a really really hot abusive girl. That being said, I think the Sox are going to get their ass kicked in Houston. All I was hoping was that the Astros would have one game under their belt before getting there and they would have had the umpire known the difference between a foul and a ball but that is just a minor detail. I think you are going to see the Astros really come together, they've had good stuff over the past two games but just messed up once or twice. I don't think you are going to see that happen anymore.

I knew the Astros weren't going to win game one with the way Clemens pitched but last night I really was sitting there going wtf? It baffled me. First the pitch called ball, not foul and then the homerun off Lidge in the 9th. At least they have Oswalt to face on Tuesday. I think this series is going to go to 7 games. Oh, and to make matters worse, I have a friend from college that I really don't like talking to that is from Chicago and she called me after both games to talk smack.

This is SportsCenter.

BTW, there's a new ESPN SportsCenter ad where Scott Van Pelt is questioned for using performance enhancers. The FBI finds a Thesaurus in his desk, and asks him what it it. He does the standard "steroid" denail and the tries to run off. They tackle him and he yells, "Unhand me you rapscallions!"

*snicker*
