Some TV rambling: Gilmore Girls, Prison Break

Okay, the scene with Madeline Albrecht on Gilmore Girls? Fucking priceless. I mean, holy-shit level priceless.

The preview for the future episode in which Jess returns? Made me throw up a little in my mouth. Have I mentioned that he's one of my least favorite characters, ever? If they do a Gilmore Girls/House crossover, they can have both Jess and Stacy die in a car accident together, and I'd call it the best hour of TV, ever.

Over on Prison Break, I can't talk about this without a spoiler tag, so here's one:

Okay, yesterday, theferrett posted about F*@%k Yeah! moments. The ending, in which we see that LJ used his cameraphone to record the agent, was a perfect example of one.

The vice-president thing had already leaked, but it was still a nice (and logical) twist. They'd done a great job of never specifying that the Veep was a woman. And I didn't realize how far they'd go in dealing with LJ's family. Wow.

And don't get me started on Marilyn. We all knew it would happen, but it's still heartbreaking. Of course, at least a part of me wonders if it was really Bellick, or if Scofield might have decided that it was necessary. Still, unlike most of the humans on the show, Marilyn was an innocent, and deserved better.



In both cases, these were probably the best epiosdes of each series this year. And since we watched both last night (thanks to Tivo and no House), it was a good viewing night.

I hate Jess. He has such a huge following for some reason. His character is a high school drop-out who treated Rory like trash. I don't understand why people like him so much, I can only guess because Alexis and Milo date in real life?

I'm not loving Gilmore Girls so much this season, and that makes me sad.

They can't have their reconciliation before November Sweeps! Important things happen on TV only during November, February, and May. It's the law.

I pretty much figured they wouldn't as soon as she turned down Logan's offer to go to AC. It added an air of meloncholy to everything else.

She only started dating Milo just as he was leaving the show (which was good, as it avoided the issues on shows like Everwood and Alias) -- I think that people just have this "bad boy" thing, and he's as close as they come on this show. I've disliked him since the day he appeared, and hated him once he swiped a book of Rory's and wrote in it. But he gets more annoying with each appearance.

At least he's got a mid-season show, so he won't be a regular.

My husband was laughing so hard after the Madeline Albrecht scene that I couldn't hear the first part of the next one.

I don't think I agree about Jess. As her boyfriend, I hated him. But since I don't see them hooking up again, I think the wake-up call he brings could be good. (If they do date/fall into bed then I promise to be completely in your camp. Assuming you will accept me by then, traitorous Jess-lover that I am.)

My "oh shit" moment of the night was when Richard started to express his fears for Rory in front of Emily. I knew it was coming eventually, but it still hurt to see that start.

Thing is, it sounds like Jess is concerned over Logan, who I really think is the first boyfriend who has actually helped Rory grow, and who actually cares about her as a real person. Granted, the WB has never been known for honest previews, but if Jess is the one to convince Rory to go back to Yale, then something's seriously wrong. It's things like the Paris moment last night (Rory should be editor now), that should do it.

Logan cares about Rory? Indeed. Logan has used this to help her in this instance? No. He has been politely noncommittal about her quitting school; I sense that he doesn't approve, but he's not said boo to her about it. And now everybody is dithering over Rory's decisions and Rory's future without including Rory in the conversation. And Rory's had several "moments" in the tune of Paris/editor. She's been gliding over them with a discontented frown. Maybe Jess's job will be to be a catalyst. Someone will actually try to talk to her about it again. His asshat personality will keep him from mincing words with her and hopefully open up the subject for discussion with the most important person in the equation: Rory.

I'm somewhat personally involved in this storyline, I guess. I quit high school in the 11th grade. (I went back a year later when I realized I'd been a complete idiot and managed to graduate, but I've yet to make it to college.) I see all the people around Rory doing precisely what everyone around me did. "We disagree, honey, but if that's your decision..." Even Lorelai after her initial bid failed. And I wonder what would have happened if anybody had acted otherwise.

Hee! I'm way too emotionally involved, now that I think about it. What a goose.

Totally agree on both counts: excellent television with both episodes.

Gilmore --

I hate Jess with a passion. He's a selfish little jerkwad who dragged Rory down. And I would assume that he'll just show up to nag on her for being a big fat sellout richie-rich, and I agree that he's not the character who should give her that kind of epiphanic moment. If it ever even comes. I am glad they kept the Lorelai/Rory reconciliation on slow-burn, even if it is for sweeps reasons, because that's the big one - it shouldn't be all good again in just one hour.

I'm a little more hopeful that his appearance might show Logan what he's missing about Rory - Logan just hits the wrong notes with her, though he's very close (he's concerned about her leaving Yale, but doesn't push it; he misses the point about the AC trip being canceled when he offers to take Rory instead; he doesn't even KNOW Rory's friends...). Logan needs to see the real Rory and make adjustments, and Jess showing up might do that.

Madeleine Albright's appearance was gold. Pure freaking gold.

Prison Break --

I didn't see the spoilers, so the Veep thing was a total F-Yeah moment for me (along with the cameraphone). I thought Patricia Wettig was the WIFE of the VP (which is probably what I was supposed to think), so that reveal was done expertly. And in that vein, I think it's a swerve on Bellick being the cat-killer. Maybe it was T-Bag's crew, to put pressure on Westmoreland's silence in the case of who killed Bob?

...but Jess may be the catalyst to snap Rory out of this self-destructive funk. If that's the case, bring him on (and, of course, only keep him for one episode).

T-Bag would be an interesting twist. I'd rather it be T-Bag or Bellick than Michael.

Good point about Logan. He's not been integrated into her Star's Hollow life, and that needs to change.

Logan definitely needs to push, but I think he's been afraid that pushing her would chase her away. As noted below, he needs some sense of her Star's Hollow life as well as her Richard and Emily life, to really know her.

And the mark of good shows is getting us emotionally involved. :-)

I knew you'd be upset about Marilyn. So was I. I expected it eventually, but it still blows. And apparently I missed the leak about the VP, so that was a nice twist for me.
