I'm grumpy for a whole variety of reasons this morning, and don't really feel like getting the new year off to a negative start (insert obligatory rant about how dates are arbitrary anyway here). So let's focus on the good (or the cheap, at least). Not surprisingly, most of the deals today are digital ones. The key deals from yesterday are the DVD ones on Rise of the Guardians, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Twilight Zone, although the X-Men movies, Jack Reacher, and Sleeping Dogs deals are solid, too.

The Kindle Daily Deal is on three of my favorite foodie books for $2.99 a pop. You can get Kitchen Confidential by Tony Bourdain, The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollan, or A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage as a part of this sale. All three of these are must-reads, imho, and amongst the best food-related books of the last fifteen years.

The YA Deal of the Day is on James Dashner's The Maze Runner for $1.99.

Some good YA deals that won't expire today include Maggie Stiefvater's awesome Shiver, Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic #01: Sandry's Book, Michael Grant's Gone, Lauren Oliver's Delirium, and Amanda Hocking's Wake for $2.99 each. Alex Flynn's Beastly is $1.99, while

In non-YA books, Jim Fusilli's Narrows Gate for $2, Ed McBain's Cop Hater (the first 87th Precinct novel) for $2.99, Ben Bova's Titan for $2.99, and M.T. Anderon's National Book Award winner The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Volume I: The Pox Party for $3.99.

You can also nab the Kindle version of Top Chef: The Cookbook for $3.99.

And most importantly, How to Archer: The Ultimate Guide to Espionage, Style, Women, and Cocktails Ever Written is only $1.99 on the Kindle!

Meanwhile, on DVD, Archer: Season 1 is $11.99 (60% off).

The Blu-Ray version of Looper is $19.99 (44% off), and is one of the best movies of the last year (genre or otherwise).

Sherlock Holmes is $3.99 (80% off) on DVD. Executive Decision is $4.99 (67% off) on Blu-Ray.

And The Complete Thin Man Collection is back down to $17.99 (70% off)! Yeah, the series gets weaker as it goes on (what series doesn't?), but it's still wonderful to watch.

In video games, if you got one of the $5 credits for digital downloads over the last two months, you've got 30 days to use it. The selection of Editor's Choice Games is pretty solid, with already-decent deals on Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect Trilogy, Darksiders, Dark Souls, The Darkness, Saint's Row the Third, Command and Conquer, and more.

The digital download of Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition is $2.49 (75% off). The Kingdoms of Amalur Complete Bundle is $14.99 (75% off), and comes with a personal apology for hypocrisy and mismanagement from Curt Schilling. Okay, it doesn't, but that would be an awesome bonus feature.

In non-digital PC games, Rocksmith Guitar and Bass for Windows is $37.99 (37% off).

If you've got a WiiU, you can get Funky Barn for $29.99. Yeah, it's probably awful, but it inspired Jeff from Giant Bomb's awesome four-hour video here, which is something.

(Aside: Giant Bomb's Game of the Year Podcasts have been amazing this year, as have their top ten lists, which have included guest lists by folks like Jhonen "Invader Zim" Vasquez and Max "Cards Against Humanity" Temkin. It's not the only video game site I read, but it's certainly my favorite.)

For the PS3, the Jak & Daxter Collection is $14.96 (25% off).

In MP3s, you can grab Sleep Like a Princess, a selection of lullaby music from around the world, for free.

Finally, in digital video, you can rent Toy Story 3 for $.99 in HD.
