He said the episode, titled "Still Life," was conceived in part as a device to promote interest in the show during the November "sweep," when networks go all out to give the ratings of local affiliates a boost.

*gasp*

Really? I had no idea.

Has CNN changed its target audience to eight-year-olds? Is there anyone who both enjoys TV and doesn't know about November Sweeps? Or am I just too immersed in media coverage of TV in general?

You're too immersed in media coverage of TV in general.

A lot of people just know that they turn the box on and pretty pictures come out.

The general rule of journalism is to write as if people knew next to nothing about the subject material. Why do you think they still refer to mention people as "President Bush" and "Vice-President Cheney?"

I'm just upset that a source like CNN wrote: "The drama is based on the experiences of real-life forensic psychic Allison DuBois."

Except, of course, for the part where the fictional character is actually psychic.

See, and here I'm just wondering if this is the first time a TV show has resurrected a dead guy for this purpose? Not adapting an earlier appearance, but literally recreating a dead dude to speak new lines in a new context. I've seen it a bit in commercials, but not much before on network television. Any other examples?

As for the CNN thing, I agree that it's simply assuming that your audience has no idea what you're talking about. That, and you probably are too immersed in media coverage.

Not that that's a BAD thing.
