I meant to post this a few days ago, but the whole being sick thing made it tough.

Anyway, I've got a weird love/hate thing with materialism. I love owning stuff, from DVDs to toys to gadgets to whatnot. But I've also been without before, and lost everything I've owned. It's not fun, but it's something you can recover from.

So while I adore getting stuff, and I love giving gifts, I don't judge people based on whether (or what) they give.

This is especially so in recent years, when money has been tight, and we've not been able to give as much as we wanted even to all the people we feel are "musts" on our gift list, let alone to others.

In other words, I don't expect cards or gifts from anyone not related to me this season.

That said, for those who really do feel the need to send stuff, I wouldn't say no, either (and I'd be lying if I didn't admit to loving getting cards, even if I suck at sending them).

For those who want to send gifts,

My Amazon wishlist.

Shadesong's Amazon wishlist

Shadesong's Thinkgeek wishlist (I've got one too, but haven't updated it in years, so I won't link it).

Elayna's Amazon wishlist

And our mailing address is listed here.

That said, there are folks with a lot less stuff than us (and, in all likelihood, most of you). If you really want to do something wonderful this year, might I suggest buying a llama? I'm talking about something you can do through the Heifer Foundation. For more information, read my wife's post, which talks about how you can help out with a very good cause.

And once you've read that, you can hear my wife and daughter singing The Llama Song!
