My latest ZOINKS! column for SMRT-TV.com is up. This time, I take a look at two November debuts: Boondocks and Skyland (who the fuck would have guessed that Nicktoons would actually broadcast something worthwhile?).

as always a great column...

One thing on Boondocks...Alicia Keys was to be the voice of Huey, but had to drop out due to schedule or whatever, so Regina King had to take on two voices...I agree that's been the main flaw is the voicework; in the R. Kelly ep, there was a female in the crowd outside who sounded dead on like Huey...

Skyland is actually NOT Canadian...
It's a FRENCH production, the animation is by Attitude Studio (http://www.attitude-studio.com/). They have France and Luxembourg offices. They usually do video games... Skyland is their first big CGI show.

France does a lot of stuff that is in English... sometimes it comes here, sometimes it doesn't. Luckily Skyland did...

and I assume Skyland will eventually be on regular Nick because Nicktoons is still not avaailable in a lot of places...

I'm in NYC and have Digital Cable Timewarner and I don't get it... nor do we get WWE 24/7. So yeah...

Luckily I got to watch Skyland online.

Totally agree about the voicework (though I wasn't aware that Regina King did both kids). Huey's voice just didn't match up to the one I had in my head from reading the comic strip, and it took a few eps to work that disconnect out in my brain.

That said, it's funny as hell, so I can deal.
