were really stonewall cynics at heart, secretly sneering at the rubes who buy into their holier-than-thou posturing. But I'm afraid they're not. I still believe they are -- not nessesarily sneering at the rubes so much as perfectly willing to say whatever the rubes need them to say. If the rubes all suddenly become Muslim, they will too.
