Yet another reason to love Warren Ellis
Dec. 9th, 2005 06:29 pmOn his revamp of Marvel's well-intentioned, but remembered-more-fondly-than-it-deserves New Universe:
"Battlestar Galactica back in 1979 was a bloody awful television series. It was indefensible. The remake, however, is quite good. The PR of course, for the new Battlestar Galactica show didn't say: 'Finally, a piece of crap from the 1970s reborn for a new century!'"

Date: 2005-12-10 12:29 am (UTC)It's an entire reboot... as if none of the series ever happened and while as a whole New Universe didn't rock... DP7 and Star Brand were pretty awesome.
I'm much more excited by the fact that before Warren Ellis does a raping (like he's doing with Nextwave; As a fan of Ms. Marvel, Machine Man and The Captain evem , I despise his disdain... I hope his interviews are tongue and cheek and he respects these charcaters more then he seems to present) that there will be a series of one-shots focuing on the origingal New Universe.
Now, there is the issue that it's UNTOLD tales of the New Universe and it ignores The PITT and the whole Quasar thing, but so did the current Exiles arc and that is some fun stuff.

It's like... what's the point of saying Warren Ellis is being given the New Universe when it sounds like he doesn't plan to actually use it.
It's more like... "remember when we handed Warren Ellis the X books and that lasted like 4 issues each and he basically acted like the books were all his and he created the charcaters and it was okay, but essentially it had nothing to do with anything?... Yeah... we're doing that again"

Date: 2005-12-10 12:38 am (UTC)Galactica 1980 did, however, suck major ass. It was concept-rape on the level of midichlorians.
