Because it's an American show. Anime (in theory) refers to animated works created in Japan.

I'd have to say Akira for ten bucks is a pretty good deal, considering it's one of the most referenced pieces of anime, and not just in Japan either.

The problem with making Excel Saga one of the best series ever is the same reason you can't make Nadesico one of the best series ever. A lot of the enjoyment of both series comes from understanding what they are parodying, and it's hard to rate that factor.

That said, I sometimes find them listed at dvdpricesearch.com, sometimes hear about them from others, and sometimes just luck onto them (and once you find one 45% off or more DVD, others often show up in the "people who bought this also bought" section).

Not racist - the term came into use to denote one country's copious output (which crossed stylistic and audience boundaries). That's no more racist than talking about loving French New Wave cinema.
