Happy last day of the year

For those who think the first day in an arbitrary change to a pre-C.E. calendar that was, itself, arbitrary, matters, Happy New Year!

To everyone else, happy night when you get pissed at that asshole neighbor who lights a bottle rocket at 3:45 in the morning*.

Accomplished blessedly little today, other than sending some bills off and grabbing breakfast at IHOP. Otherwise, finished two books, am working on a third, and am now watching football (pro, not the minor leagues**).

Also talked to Miss Kid for half an hour. Much as I adore the alone time, I'm so looking forward to seeing her tomorrow.

Back to being a couch potato.

Remember, folks -- tonight's a leap-second, so adjust your clocks accordingly!

*I'm aware of the fact that there are, technically, two nights a year when that happens in the USA.

**Also known as "college football" to some.

Of course it matters, if only for the booze and revelry.

Besides, it's close enough to the natural "start" of the year -- the winter solstice -- that I'd count it as being fairly logically placed.

Or, in my neighborhood, twelve or thirteen nights. "Hey! It's freakin' Flag Day! Let's set of a few!! Whooooooooooooooooo!!!"

Actually, it's not the bottle rockets that annoy me; it's the sound of some stoopid pudsucker emptying a high-capacity magazine inside the city limits and probably up into the air.
