Miyazaki on TCM!
Jan. 4th, 2006 10:03 amTCM is having a Miyazaki month!
Tomorrow (Miyazaki's 65th birthday), they're showing Spirited Away (dubbed at 8PM, subtitled at 1AM) and Princess Mononoke (dubbed, but with a Neil Gaiman script, at 10:15PM, and subbed at 3:15AM).
On January 12, it's Nausicaa in the Valley of the Winds (dubbed at 8PM, subbed at 12:15) and Castle in the Sky (dubbed at 10PM, subbed at 2:15AM).
On January 19, it's My Neighbor Totoro (dubbed at 8PM, subbed at 11:15PM), Porco Rosso (dubbed at 9:30, subbed at 2:45AM), and Whisper of the Heart (dubbed at 11:15PM, subbed at 4:30AM).
Finally, on January 26, we get Only Yesterday (subbed at 8PM, dubbed at 12:30AM) and Pom Poko (dubbed at 12:30AM, subbed at 2:45AM).
There are a few surprises, both in terms of omissions (no Kiki's Delivery Service? Or one of my personal favorites, Castle of Cagliostro?) and inclusions (that final day is all Ghibli, but I don't think Miyazaki directed any of them). Still, some damned interesting stuff for young and old alike.
After that great October filled with Val Lewton flicks, and the November full of Hitchcock, I still manage to be surprised and impressed by this network.
And in related news, Howl's Moving Castle comes out in less than two months! Two-disc edition even! And since the release date is a week before Miss Kid's birthday, I think we know what we're getting her.

Date: 2006-01-11 01:38 am (UTC)I heard a rumor (was it here?) that Studio Ghibli's next project was going to be based on Ursula LeGuin's 'Earthsea' books, and that Miyazaki's son was going to direct it.
