Herm Edwards
Jan. 6th, 2006 03:00 pmSo, Newsday reports that Herm's officially gone, and we'll be getting a fourth-round draft pick for him.
Which is fine and dandy, but I'd like to know why not one article has mentioned the possibility of tampering charges being filed against the Chiefs. It's pretty clear that there was at least some level of communication between their organization and Herm, and there's no question that affected the negotiations.

Date: 2006-01-06 08:17 pm (UTC)1.) New York fans have never given Herm enough credit. He's getting killed on radio. Never mind that he's been to the playoffs 3 times out of 5 years, including the year "You play to win the game" where we were supposed to be dead. He deserves more love.
2.) He wanted an extension, he wasn't gonna get one and the team was a mess. He's also underpaid. KC will pay him. And that team is gonna be better if they draft well on defense.
3.) I'm gonna miss Herm. And we're going to suck monkey dung next year.

Date: 2006-01-06 08:23 pm (UTC)Herm was a fine coach (and between Herm and Belichick, we seem to lose good coaches too often). And I don't blame him for leaving. But I do think that KC was clearly chatting Herm up for months (and Dick V was in on it), and we should be getting something more than a fourth rounder out of this.
And yeah, I'm not looking forward to next year.

Date: 2006-01-06 08:53 pm (UTC)But I have to boggle a bit at a very small note of progress. It's only been a couple of years since the NFL instituted rules governing minority hiring practices. Now we have two teams haggling over an African American coach. I realize it's a very individual thing here, but still, it's kinda neat to watch.
