So, Newsday reports that Herm's officially gone, and we'll be getting a fourth-round draft pick for him.

Which is fine and dandy, but I'd like to know why not one article has mentioned the possibility of tampering charges being filed against the Chiefs. It's pretty clear that there was at least some level of communication between their organization and Herm, and there's no question that affected the negotiations.

A few things...

1.) New York fans have never given Herm enough credit. He's getting killed on radio. Never mind that he's been to the playoffs 3 times out of 5 years, including the year "You play to win the game" where we were supposed to be dead. He deserves more love.

2.) He wanted an extension, he wasn't gonna get one and the team was a mess. He's also underpaid. KC will pay him. And that team is gonna be better if they draft well on defense.

3.) I'm gonna miss Herm. And we're going to suck monkey dung next year.

I suspect that if the Jets pushed, they could have gotten more. I heard an NFL insider today mentioning that the Jets had gotten tired of the whole thing and were actually glad to get rid of him.

But I have to boggle a bit at a very small note of progress. It's only been a couple of years since the NFL instituted rules governing minority hiring practices. Now we have two teams haggling over an African American coach. I realize it's a very individual thing here, but still, it's kinda neat to watch.
