But has there ever been better advice? Because, you know, my first instinct would've been to drown.

"Turn around, don't drown" is a rhyming public safety campaign slogan, like the old "Arrive alive, drive 55" or the more recent "Click it or ticket" campaigns.

It's funny how the NOAA writer broke it into more formal language. Those bulletins have a strict format that often sounds stilted.

A pastor and a priest who had churches near each other at a sharp curve in the road were working together to erect a large sign. It said: "The end is near--turn yourself around and go the other way."

A car tore along the road, pausing only long enough for the driver to yell "Why don't you mind your own business, you religious freaks!" before peeling off around the curve.

The next thing the pastor and the priest heard was a screech of brakes and a splashing crash. The pastor turned to the priest and said "I guess you were right. We probably should have just said 'Bridge Out.'"
