KOL: The familiars are up to a combined 392 pounds. Should've been more, but I screwed up and lost track of the weight of one of them, and raised it to 20 instead of 19. ETA: Actually, since one of my familiars is the one that just lies there and does nothing, I'll probably have to raise the rest to twenty (it'll be faster).

I'm torn on which skill to take when I finally ascend. At risk of asking the obvious, if I take Advanced Cocktailcrafting, I'll be able to mix my drinks, right? It's not just the ability to conjure ice cubes?

The Oscar noms are out, and Uwe Boll's Alone in the Dark was shut out. Who knew? Seriously, with the possible exceptions of the lack of picture/director nominations for Walk the Line, the actress nom for Charleze Theron (was North Country any better than Aeon Flux? Most folks I know thought both blew), and the best supporting actress nom for Michelle Williams, I can't say it's a totally shocking field. A History of Violence got fewer nods than it deserved (by at least four -- Bello, Morgenstern, Best Pic, and Cronenberg), but the Animated Picture category includes three pictures that are actually good, for once (although if Corpse Bride beats out either Howl's Moving Castle or Wallace and Gromit, there's something really fishy going on).

Worth noting: People who never received Oscar nominations include Dana Andrews, Joseph Cotten, Sam Peckinpah, and Maureen O'Hara. So don't go putting too much stock into them. If you don't like who got nominated, don't worry about it.

Watched another couple of CSI eps last night. Anyone know if there's a good Grissom icon with my favorite quote of his -- "I'm wrong all the time. It's how I get to right."? I'd love one, but there seem to be four billion icons out there, half of which are focusing on never-happening relationships or how sexy the actors are. Not easy to search.

Finally, the trailer for The Notorious Betty Page is up. You know you wanna watch it.

And lo, everything I hate about fandom in one sentence.

That is a damn intriguing trailer and I wish to subscribe to its newsletter.

this statement is disturbing, but TRUE

*laugh* If I believed everything I read online, I'd have thought that the Harry Potter series featured nothing but 2,500-some-odd pages of hardcore teenager fucking. :o

Yeah, I like how the AP story about the Oscar noms says "Interestingly, none of the three were computer animated" about the Animated Picture noms. How is that even slightly "interesting?" Pixar didn't come out with anything last year, and what else was there computer-animated? Chicken Little? What else was there to choose from?

It isn't even true; some of the Wallace & Gromit stuff was CGI...

I have my fingers crossed for Wallace & Gromit; certainly it ought to walk all over Corpse Bride, but I've not seen Howl's Moving Castle so can't really comment.

I'm pleased to see Judi Dench getting the nod for Mrs Henderson Presents, a film I loved...

good odds there...Nick Park and Oscar are longtime pals...3 of 4 wins and the only reason its not 4 of 4 because Grand Day Out lost to Creature Comforts in the same year...

How about a link to a page with the rest of the nominations?

Dont think Uwe even got a Razzie nod this year...been trying to check their noms, but their site seems to be farked...

I'd suggest he try his hand at porn, but porn auteurs have standards too...

thanks...should have known the Razzies wouldnt forget him...

Nora Ephron will be tough to beat...unlike the others which folks knew would be Razzie bait, Bewitched was supposed to be Sony's big summer tentpole film...but she pulled a Rick Berman and spat out a film that pissed away the hardcore fanbase and left casual viewers going "WTF?"

I love how The Onion is recommending that he make his movies even worse, because if they are really bad then they'd be fun to watch.

Actually, I was quite surprised by many of the nominees, particularly Crash, seeing as how the Oscars, with a few exceptions (e.g. Silence of the Lambs), seem to be the Awards for the Best Films Released During the Last Three Weeks of December.

I'd very much like to know who these "most folks" are. North Country is not perfect, and it's not even as good as Niki Caro's debut Whale Rider, but it did not "blow" by any stretch of the imagination.

In addition to the perfection that is Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand, it has the best work ever by Richard Jenkins.

and of course, Star Wars lost to Annie Hall in 1977...

Joseph Cotten never got a nomination? That seems completely wrong to me on so many levels. I would have never guessed that in a million years. You figure that being in so many Welles movies would have rubbed off at least once...
