Mets, Day 1
Apr. 3rd, 2006 04:22 pmWoohoo! We're on pace for a 162-0 season! I love opening day! :-)
The good:
Xavier Fucking Nady. The guy everyone assumed was trade bait. 4-4 with an rbi and a run scored. Damn.
Paul Lo Duca. Who knew, part 2? 2-4, a double, and an rbi.
David Wright. Okay, who didn't know? 2-4, a homer, rbi, and run scored.
Tom Glavine. Great on the mound (6 IP, 1 ER, 5 Ks, initiated a double play), great at the plate (2-2 and moved a runner into scoring position).
Billy Wagner. Looper, he's not. One save down, many more (I hope) to go.
The not so good:
Everyone else, at the plate. The rest of the team was 0-21, with six strikeouts. Not so good for folks like Delgado and Reyes.
Heilman. You don't earn your way into the starting rotation by nearly blowing a save. Let's hope this was just opening-day jitters.
As I write this, the Braves are up 4-0 without having let the Dodgers bat yet, so I doubt the Mets will have sole possession of first, but 1-0 is as good as I could have hoped for.
Opening Day. It should be a national holiday.
